A Diesel/Gas air heater drains diesel/gas from the tank of the vehicle's oil tank to burn it to heat the van. One liter of diesel or gas is approximately 278 kilowatt-hours (an electric baseboard heater is about 2.5 kilowatts). 1 liter of gas/diesel is enough energy to heat the van for 1-2 nights. The burning box is mounted outside of the van, generally, it is safe to run.
Similar theory as the diesel/gas air heater, the water heater works with an additional coolant tank, providing a heat source for heat exchange. The coolant pipe connects both the heat exchangers of water and air.
Installation of the Gas/Diesel heater will need a bit more work than other heating solutions.
The electric water heater(about 1.4 kilowatts) is a cheap solution for water heating. However, it consumes a lot of electricity. If the van is mostly connected to an on-shore power supply, this could be a very good choice. Otherwise, you will need to carefully calculate the capacity of your battery.
The propane water heater is the only tankless portable water heating solution. It provides instant hot water without waiting 30 mins for hot water. When you don't use it, you could simply disconnect it and put it in your garage. Best choice for outdoor showers. It is always best to store and use it outside of the van for safety reasons.
